Pumps for food production

Frequently asked questions about pumps for food production

How does a food pump differ from a general industrial one?

By its materials and design: food-grade stainless steel, seals made of approved materials, polished contact surfaces, the absence of stagnant zones and the possibility of full cleaning. Such pumps are designed for CIP/SIP treatment.

Which pumps do not destroy the structure of the product?

For sensitive products — pieces of fruit, minced meat, cheese curd, ready meals — positive displacement pumps with a gentle pumping regime are used: lobe, screw and peristaltic pumps. They produce little shear and preserve the integrity of the inclusions.

Do the pumps withstand CIP cleaning and high temperatures?

Yes, food pumps are designed for regular cleaning without dismantling and for the temperatures of the cleaning solutions. For steam sterilisation (SIP) the appropriate design of seals and materials is selected.

Are there documents concerning contact with foodstuffs?

The equipment is supplied with the manufacturer’s documentation, including confirmation that the materials comply with the requirements for contact with foodstuffs. The full package of documents is provided together with the delivery.

How do you select a pump for a specific product?

Send us the characteristics of the product (viscosity, temperature, the presence of inclusions, abrasiveness), the required capacity and head, and also the cleaning requirements. We will propose a size and design, and if necessary carry out testing on a sample of the product.
