CSF hygienic pumps for food lines — official representative in Ukraine

Country: Italy

Year of foundation: 1970

Type of equipment: Pumps

Industries: Food, Beverages, Pet food, Pharmaceutical, Other

CSF Inox S.p.A. is an Italian manufacturer of stainless steel pumps and equipment, established in 1970. The company is based in Montecchio Emilia, in the province of Reggio Emilia, and has representative offices in France, Germany, Canada and Mexico. The equipment is designed for the food industry, the drinks sector, and the dairy, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Steiner Ukraine supplies CSF pumps in Ukraine, providing pump selection and delivery support.

CSF Pumps: what the company manufactures

The manufacturer’s product range includes several fundamentally different types of equipment.

Centrifugal pumps — the main category, ranging from simple designs for auxiliary tasks to high-capacity series for main pipelines. Self-priming pumps — for pipelines where the product contains air or the pipeline is partially filled. Positive displacement pumps are available in single-screw, twin-screw and sinusoidal-rotor designs. The manufacturer also produces pneumatic pumps, metering pumps, mixers and electronic control systems.

This product range means that equipment for a single production line is selected based on its operating principle rather than on availability: a centrifugal pump is used for water and milk, whilst a positive displacement pump is used for condensed products.

How to choose the right type of CSF pump for your product

This choice determines, first and foremost, the viscosity and shear sensitivity of the product.

Centrifugal pumps are designed for low-viscosity liquids: water, milk, juices, wine and solutions. They deliver a high flow rate at moderate head, but their performance drops rapidly as viscosity increases.

Self-priming pumps are used when the pipeline is not full or the product contains gas: for emptying tanks completely, returning cleaning solution, and handling foaming products. A standard centrifugal pump would fail to maintain flow under these conditions.

Single-screw and twin-screw pumps are designed for viscous products and those that must not be mechanically broken down: minced meat, whole-fruit jams, dough and creams. They deliver a fixed volume per revolution, so the flow rate is independent of the line resistance.

A pump with a sinusoidal rotor — a specialised solution for the gentle transfer of products containing solids.

What does ‘hygienic performance’ mean?

Hygienic design is not merely a statement, but a set of specific requirements relating to geometry and surfaces.

There are no stagnant areas or dead spaces where product remains. Internal surfaces are polished or electropolished, as residues accumulate on micro-irregularities, which then become a breeding ground for bacteria. Transition radii are designed so that they are washed by the flow of the cleaning solution. Gaskets and seals must be accessible for replacement and made from materials approved for contact with foodstuffs.

It is precisely these requirements that are verified during EHEDG and 3-A certification. The practical benefit for production is that the pump can be cleaned in the CIP loop without being dismantled, and the cleaning process is documented rather than merely claimed.

CSF pumps in the Steiner Ukraine catalogue

CL-CLC Series Centrifugal Sanitary Pump Manufactured from stamped and cast polished stainless steel, monobloc design, with a flow rate of up to 90 m³/h and a head of up to 50 m. The CL version features an open impeller and is suitable for handling media containing solids, whilst the CLC version features a closed impeller for higher head.

Self-priming hygienic pump with a self-priming device upstream of the impeller, for lines containing air, for emptying tanks and returning the cleaning solution.

The remaining product ranges are available on request. Other items of pumping equipment can be found in the category centrifugal pumps and in the catalogue pumps for the food industry.

Certification and materials

The manufacturer claims three certifications: 3-A in accordance with sanitary standards for the food, dairy and pharmaceutical industries, EHEDG for hygienic design and ATEX in accordance with Directive 2014/34/EU for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres. The specific set of documentation provided with the delivery will be confirmed upon order.

Parts in contact with the product are made from stainless steel; the grade depends on the series: for the CL-CLC series, the manufacturer’s catalogue specifies AISI 316; for the self-priming range — AISI 316L (1.4404) with CF3M (1.4409) castings. Cast components undergo precision casting and electrochemical polishing.

Elastomers in contact with the product comply with the requirements of the FDA and Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004. The material of the gaskets is selected to suit the product and the cleaning regime.

Selection and service from Steiner Ukraine

When selecting a hygienic pump, the process begins with the product, not the flow rate. The viscosity at operating temperature, the presence of solids, shear sensitivity and the cleaning regime determine the type of pump. Only then is the model size selected to match the operating point.

We specify the product and its temperature, the required flow rate and pressure, the line geometry and inlet conditions, CIP parameters, the standard of available connections, and the documentation requirements for materials in contact with the product. Based on this, we determine the series, model size, seal type and drive specifications. Next come supply, service and spare parts. Steiner Ukraine has been operating in the industrial equipment market since 2006.

FAQ

Where are CSF pumps manufactured?
In Italy. CSF Inox S.p.A., founded in 1970, is based in Montecchio Emilia, in the province of Reggio Emilia. The company has branches in France, Germany, Canada and Mexico.

What types of pumps does CSF manufacture?
Centrifugal, self-priming, single-screw and twin-screw, sinusoidal-rotor, pneumatic, as well as metering pumps, mixers and electronic control systems.

Are CSF pumps certified?
The manufacturer states that the product is certified to 3-A, EHEDG and ATEX standards. The set of documents for a specific delivery is confirmed upon order.

Which CSF pump should I choose for a viscous product?
Positive displacement — single-screw or twin-screw. A centrifugal pump handling viscous fluids suffers a sharp drop in head and efficiency.

What type of CSF pump is required if there is air in the suction line?
Self-priming. It removes air from the line and maintains the flow when gas is present in the product.

What type of stainless steel are CSF pumps made from?
The grade depends on the series. For the CL-CLC centrifugal series, the manufacturer’s catalogue specifies AISI 316; for the self-priming range, it specifies AISI 316L (1.4404) with CF3M (1.4409) castings.

Which CSF products are available in Ukraine?
The Steiner Ukraine catalogue features two series: the CL-CLC centrifugal series and the self-priming series. The remaining product ranges are available on request.
