ProMinent is a German manufacturer of metering pumps, water treatment systems and measuring technology. The group is headquartered in Heidelberg. Steiner Ukraine is the official ProMinent distributor in Ukraine: it selects, supplies and services metering pumps.

How does a ProMinent metering pump work?

The drive generates a reciprocating stroke. The stroke is transmitted to the diaphragm or plunger in the dosing head. Check valves on the suction and discharge sides prevent the chemical from flowing back. The exception is the valveless ORLITA DR plunger pump.

The flow rate is changed in two ways: by stroke length and by stroke rate. This allows one pump to meter across a wide range without changing the dosing head.

The groups differ in their drive. In solenoid-driven pumps, the stroke is generated by a solenoid. In motor-driven pumps, by an electric motor via a worm gear and cam. In hydraulic diaphragm pumps, the diaphragm is moved by hydraulic fluid; in plunger pumps, the plunger displaces the medium.

How to choose the type of metering pump?

The type is determined by the flow rate and back pressure at the duty point. The medium, installation zone and control method are then taken into account.

up to 80 l/h and up to 25 bar — gamma solenoid-driven pumps;
up to 1,040 l/h and up to 16 bar — alpha and Sigma motor-driven pumps;
ATEX hazardous area or flow rates up to 2,100 l/h — process diaphragm pumps;
pressure up to 400 bar with a PTFE diaphragm or up to 3,000 bar with a metal diaphragm — hydraulic diaphragm pumps;
pressure up to 800 bar, media temperature up to +400 °C, high-viscosity media — plunger pumps.

ProMinent: facts about the manufacturer

1960 — Viktor Dulger founds Chemie & Filter GmbH in Heidelberg;
1968 — the first electronic solenoid-driven metering pump, “ProMinent electronic”, which gave the company its name;
1982 — the first motor-driven metering pump;
1999 — acquisition of ORLITA Dosiertechnik GmbH, a manufacturer of process pumps;
2014 — the company is renamed ProMinent GmbH.

According to the manufacturer, the group employs more than 3,000 people, and its own production is located at 12 sites. Industries: chemicals, industrial and municipal water treatment, food and beverage, swimming pool water treatment, oil and gas, and the process industry.
