The Jung Process Systems twin-screw pump is a positive displacement pump with two screws that rotate within a stainless steel casing without touching each other or the walls. The manufacturer is Jung Process Systems GmbH, Auweg 8, Kummerfeld, approximately 25 km north-west of Hamburg. Steiner Ukraine is the official representative of the manufacturer in Ukraine and is listed in its partner catalogue.
The company pursues two tracks of expertise: stainless steel processing since 1972 as part of the Jung Group and in cooperation with Jung & Co., and pump manufacturing since 2009. Jung Process Systems is a second-generation family business. The quality system is certified to ISO 9001.
A screw pump moves the medium through sealed chambers formed between the screw flights and the casing. The chambers move continuously from the inlet to the outlet, so the flow is uninterrupted.
A single-screw pump (progressive cavity pump) has a single rotor rotating within an elastomeric stator. The rotor and stator are in contact, and this friction pair wears down, especially with abrasives. Dry running destroys the stator in minutes.
A twin-screw pump has two parallel screws synchronised by a gear train. They rotate in opposite directions and do not touch Neither one another, nor the casing. There are no friction pairs in the flow path.
Hence four practical implications.
The feed is uniform. Unlike a lobe or diaphragm pump, the flow is not interrupted on each cycle. For dosing, filling and long pipelines, this eliminates the need for dampers.
The product does not break down. Progress cavity pumps neither shear nor cut the medium. The structure of pastes, emulsions, suspensions with inclusions, and viscous masses is preserved.
There is no contact wear and no valves. The abrasive does not wear away the friction pair because there isn't one. There are no valves in the design either.
One pump operates for both product and cleaning. With a change in speed, the pump switches from pumping a viscous product to pumping a cleaning solution at a flow rate sufficient for CIP. A separate cleaning pump is not required.
The manufacturer divides the range into two series.
| Implementation | Purpose |
|---|---|
| HYGHSPIN STANDARD | basic hygienic series model |
| HYGHSPIN EXTENDED | low pressure and media with solid inclusions |
| HYGHSPIN DOUBLE FLOW | high pressure drop and high flow rate, up to 50 bar |
| HYGHSPIN HOPPER | thick slurries; feed hopper at the inlet |
| HYGHSPIN ENGINEERED | made-to-measure production |
| Implementation | Purpose |
|---|---|
| CHEMSPIN STANDARD | base model of the series |
| CHEMSPIN ES | high viscosities, self-priming, low risk of cavitation |
| CHEMSPIN ATEX | ATEX zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 |
| CHEMSPIN INLINE | replacement of the existing pump in the existing pipework |
Typical applications of CHEMSPIN according to the manufacturer: adhesives, anti-corrosive underbody protection, tank farms and tank terminals, paints and varnishes, detergents.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Capacity | up to 300 m³/h |
| Pressure drop | 20–35 bar depending on model size; up to 50 bar for HYGHSPIN DOUBLE FLOW |
| Viscosity | 0.5–1,000,000 mPa·s (up to 1,000 Pa·s), higher by agreement |
| Temperature | -10…+180 °C, higher upon request |
| Standard sizes | 50, 70, 90, 105, 125 |
Capacity by size using CHEMSPIN as an example: 50 — up to 20 m³/h, 70 — up to 40, 90 — up to 100, 105 — up to 180, 125 — up to 300 m³/h.
A viscosity range spanning six orders of magnitude — from 0.5 mPa·s (thinner than water) to 1,000,000 mPa·s (a thick paste) — means that a single model size handles both the product and the cleaning solution in the same process.
The pump is fully cleaned in the system by CIP without disassembly. Sterilisation in the system is performed with steam or hot water.
The design has no dead zones where product remains between cycles. This is a basic EHEDG requirement and the reason why the pump is permitted for direct contact with the food product without manual cleaning.
Practical consequence for the line: a single unit feeds the product in the process mode and pumps the cleaning solution in the CIP mode. A separate cleaning pump, separate piping and a separate maintenance point are not required.
Product contact materials: stainless steel 1.4404, 1.4539 or 1.4462 (optional).
Elastomers: HNBR, FPM, EPDM, FFPM — with FDA approval.
Shaft seal: single or double-acting mechanical seals, or lip seals, dry-running safe. The choice depends on the medium and operating mode.
Certification: The manufacturer's quality system is ISO 9001. For hygienic applications, the manufacturer cites EHEDG, 3-A Sanitary Standards, FDA approval for elastomers, and EC 1935/2004 compliance. For hazardous areas, CHEMSPIN ATEX for zones 1, 2, 21, and 22.
The specific list of documents for your property is confirmed upon ordering.
The manufacturer names five areas: the food industry, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and the chemical industry.
The logic for choosing the series is simple. If the product comes into contact with a person — HYGHSPIN. If the medium is chemically aggressive or the area is hazardous — CHEMSPIN.
Step 1 — series. Food, drink, pharma, cosmetics → HYGHSPIN. Chemicals, solvents, ATEX → CHEMSPIN.
Step 2 — standard size by flow rate. 50 – up to 20 m³/h, 70 – up to 40, 90 – up to 100, 105 – up to 180, 125 – up to 300 m³/h.
Step 3 — execution. Solid inclusions or low pressure → EXTENDED. Pressure differential over 35 bar → DOUBLE FLOW. Thick mass that does not flow by gravity → HOPPER. Replacing an existing pump without redesigning the pipework → CHEMSPIN INLINE. Non-standard application → ENGINEERED.
Step 4 — materials and seals according to the environment, temperature and document requirements.
Why is a screw pump better than a progressive cavity pump?
In a twin-screw pump, the screws touch neither each other nor the casing, so there is no friction pair that wears down from abrasives, and dry running does not destroy the stator—there is no stator in it.
What is the maximum flow rate?
Up to 300 m³/h — size 125.
What is the maximum pressure drop?
20–35 bar depending on the model size. The HYGHSPIN DOUBLE FLOW version delivers up to 50 bar.
What viscosity can the pump handle?
From 0.5 to 1,000,000 mPa·s. Higher values by agreement with the manufacturer.
Is a separate pump required for CIP?
No. That same pump recirculates the cleaning solution at an increased speed. SIP is carried out with steam or hot water.
Is there certification for food production facilities?
The manufacturer cites EHEDG, 3-A Sanitary Standards, FDA compliance for elastomers and EC 1935/2004. The list of documents for a specific application is confirmed upon ordering.
Can one work in a hazardous area?
Yes, the CHEMSPIN ATEX is designed for zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
Does the pump damage the product structure?
The screws do not touch each other or the casing, so there is almost no displacement. The pump is used for pastes, emulsions, and products containing inclusions.
What is the difference between HYGHSPIN and CHEMSPIN?
HYGHSPIN – hygienic design for products in contact with humans. CHEMSPIN – for chemically aggressive media and hazardous areas.
Where are these pumps manufactured?
In Kummerfeld, Germany, approximately 25 km north-west of Hamburg.
What is needed for the selection?
The product and its viscosity at operating temperature, required flow rate, pressure drop, suction conditions, presence of solids, CIP/SIP parameters, ATEX zone and documentation requirements.
