Frequently asked questions about homogenization systems
How does the system differ from a standalone homogenizer?
A standalone machine only performs homogenization. A system is a unit integrated into the line: a feed pump, a back pressure unit, thermal preparation of the product, pipework, safety valves, control and pressure monitoring. It is precisely the integration that determines whether the result will be stable in continuous production.
At what stage of the line is the homogenizer installed?
Most often in the pasteurisation flow: the product is heated, homogenized and then goes on to holding and cooling. Whether it is placed before or after the holding section depends on the product and the process flow diagram — this is decided when the line is designed, not after installation.
Is there an aseptic version?
Yes. For aseptic lines versions with steam barriers on the seals, aseptic valves and the possibility of sterilising the circuit are used. This is mandatory for long-shelf-life products that do not require a cold chain.
How is the homogenization pressure controlled?
Through a control system with pressure sensors and actuated adjustment of the homogenizing head: the set value is maintained automatically, deviations are recorded and the batch data is logged. This matters both for the consistency of the product and for passing audits.
How is the capacity of the system selected?
By the capacity of the line, taking into account the operating pattern and growth plans. A homogenizer selected with no margin works at its limit and wears out faster, so we allow for a process margin and match it with the capacity of the pasteuriser and of the filling section.
