The LIVERANI INV BS pump is a self-priming impeller pump in a monoblock design, featuring a frequency converter and controls located on the unit’s control panel. Manufacturer: LIVERANI s.r.l. (Via De’ Brozzi 94, 48022 Lugo, Province of Ravenna, Italy). The company was founded in the 1950s. The equipment is manufactured in accordance with CE standards.

The series comprises two models: INV BS MINOR 40 and INV BS MAJOR 60. The power supply is three-phase, 400 V / 50 Hz. According to the manufacturer’s data sheet, the maximum flow rate is 22,500 l/h, with a head of up to 27 m. The speed is adjustable via the control panel within a range starting from 175 rpm.

Two sizes: MINOR 40 and MAJOR 60

The difference isn’t just in power. The MINOR 40 offers higher maximum speeds, whilst the MAJOR 60 provides a greater working volume per revolution at lower speeds. For viscous products, this is significant: lower speeds result in better chamber filling and less displacement.

How a flexible impeller works

The impeller is made of elastomer and has flexible blades. As the impeller rotates, the blades deform against the casing wall. Enclosed volumes are formed between them, which draw in the fluid at the inlet and carry it to the outlet.

This results in four characteristics. The first is self-priming up to 6 m. The second is volumetric flow. The third is gentle pumping: the product does not pass through a high-shear zone, so its structure remains intact and the product is not aerated. The fourth is that the pump allows solid particles to pass through in a suspended state without grinding them up.

The pump is reversible and operates in both directions of rotation. It is used to drain the pipeline and return any remaining product to the tank. It can be installed in any position.

The limitation is due to the elastomer. The pump is self-priming, meaning it fills the suction line by itself. However, prolonged operation without liquid in the casing is not permitted: the impeller blades come into contact with the casing wall and are damaged by dry running.

Impeller material: NR, CR, NBR, EPDM or VMQ

The choice of elastomer is determined by the operating environment, not by the flow rate.

The casing is made from AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel. Grade 316 is used for corrosive media and pharmaceutical applications. The shaft seal is a mechanical face seal. The compatibility of the elastomer with the product is checked prior to ordering; the impeller is supplied as a separate spare part.

The LIVERANI INV BS or MINIVERTER pump: which one to choose

Both series consist of all-in-one units with a frequency converter. The difference lies in their size and power supply.

If you need a flow rate of over 5,700 l/h and the site has a 400 V supply, go for the INV BS. If you need a compact pump for a 230 V single-phase supply, go for the MINIVERTER. If you also need to measure the volume pumped — the series ALL IN ONE with a magnetic flow meter and a touchscreen panel.
