LIVERANI - Impeller pump (MINIVERTER)

Request a quote

The LIVERANI MINIVERTER pump is a self-priming impeller pump manufactured by LIVERANI s.r.l. (Via De’ Brozzi 94, 48022 Lugo, Province of Ravenna, Italy). The company was founded in the 1950s and manufactures pumps and continuous-action presses for handling viscous liquids and media containing solid particles. The equipment is manufactured in accordance with CE standards.

MINIVERTER is a monoblock design with a built-in frequency converter. The converter is integrated into the motor’s terminal box, so there is no need for a separate cabinet-mounted inverter. The speed is adjustable within a range of 285 to 1,400 rpm. According to the manufacturer’s data sheet, the maximum flow rate is 5,760 litres per hour, with a head of up to 27 metres, which corresponds to approximately 2.65 bar for water.

Three MINIVERTER sizes

Size Accession Power Mass
MINIVERTER MICRO 3/8″ internal 0.18 kW 7 kg
MINIVERTER MINI 3/4″ 0.56 kW 10 kg
MINIVERTER MIDEX 1″1/4 0.75 kW 16 kg

All three are powered by a single-phase 230 V / 50 Hz mains supply. They are compact in size: height ranging from 210 to 236 mm depending on the model. This pump is designed for use in laboratories, small-scale production lines or for pumping small batches, rather than for the main production line.

How a flexible impeller works

The impeller is made of elastomer and has flexible blades. As the impeller rotates, the blades deform against the casing wall. Enclosed volumes are formed between them, which draw in the fluid at the inlet and carry it to the outlet.

This gives rise to three design features. The first is self-priming up to 6 m without the need for priming. The second is volumetric flow: the flow rate is proportional to the speed, so adjusting the speed directly determines the throughput. The third is gentle pumping: the product does not pass through a high-speed shear zone, so its structure remains intact.

The pump is reversible. It operates in both directions of rotation, which allows the pipeline to be drained without the need for additional fittings. It can be installed in any position.

This limitation is also due to the elastomer. The impeller must not be run dry for long periods, as friction against the casing will damage the blades.

What are the benefits of a built-in inverter?

In non-inverter models, the rotational speed is fixed, and the flow rate is regulated by throttling or a bypass. Both methods consume energy and heat the product.

In the MINIVERTER, the frequency converter is built into the motor’s terminal box. The power output varies by changing the speed within the range of 285–1,400 rpm, i.e. approximately fivefold. A separate cabinet for the inverter is not required, nor is there a cable run to it.

In terms of dosing and filling, this has two practical benefits. The first is the ability to precisely adjust the flow rate into the receiving vessel without the need for any re-fitting. The second is the ability to reduce the speed for sensitive products and increase it for rapid pumping.

Impeller material: NR, CR, NBR, EPDM or VMQ

The choice of elastomer is determined by the operating environment, not by the flow rate.

Material Designation Typical application
Natural rubber NR water, wine, general food liquids
Neoprene CR oils, moderately corrosive media
Nitrile NBR fats, mineral oils, petroleum products
EPDM EPDM hot water, cleaning solutions, alkalis
Silicone VMQ food and pharmaceutical products, a wide temperature range

The housing is made from AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel. Grade 316 is used for corrosive environments and pharmaceutical applications. The shaft seal is a mechanical face seal.

The compatibility of the elastomer with a specific product is checked prior to ordering. It is possible to replace the impeller with one made from a different material after delivery, but this is a separate spare part.

LIVERANI MINIVERTER pump for food and pharmaceutical products

LIVERANI targets its range of impeller pumps at the wine-making, food processing, pharmaceutical and marine sectors.

Typical products include wine, juice and fruit pulp, honey, milk and milk-based drinks, egg mixture, oil and tomato products. In the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors, these include solutions, syrups, emulsions and suspensions.

The connections are manufactured in accordance with food and industrial standards: DIN 11851, Garolla, BSP, Macon, Triclover, SMS, BSM/RJT. This allows the pump to be installed into an existing hygienic pipework system without the need for adaptors. Pumps for the food industry are categorised in in a separate section.

How does the MINIVERTER differ from the other LIVERANI ranges?

The LIVERANI range of impeller pumps comprises nine series. The entire range covers flow rates from 0 to 72,000 litres per hour, with viscosities of up to 50,000 cP and temperatures of up to 100 °C.

MINIVERTER — the only series featuring a frequency converter built into the pump itself. The other series differ in terms of layout, drive and trolley design:

ALL IN ONE · SP · MID · EP · GR · RID · VA / INV · INV BS

The reasoning behind the choice is as follows. If you need flow control and a compact 230 V all-in-one unit, go for the MINIVERTER. If you need a higher flow rate, opt for the higher-power series. All the manufacturer’s products are available at the LIVERANI page.

How to choose a LIVERANI MINIVERTER pump at Steiner Ukraine

Six pieces of information are required for selection: the required flow rate in litres per hour, the head or pipeline resistance in metres, the name of the product, its viscosity and temperature, the presence of solid particles, and the type and size of the connection.

It is specified separately whether flow regulation is required during operation and, if so, within what range. Another consideration is the grade of steel used for the housing: AISI 304 or AISI 316.

Steiner Ukraine supplies LIVERANI equipment together with design calculations, complete sets and spare parts, including impellers made from various elastomers. The scope is described in the section services. Related entries — in the section industrial pumps. Sector-specific recruitment — in sector-specific solutions. The technical specifications of the original source are published at the LIVERANI website.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the delivery capacity of the LIVERANI MINIVERTER pump?
Up to 5,760 litres per hour according to the manufacturer’s data sheet. The actual flow rate depends on the model, speed and system head.

What does ‘MINIVERTER’ mean in the name?
The frequency converter is built into the motor terminal box. A separate cabinet housing the inverter is not required.

What is the speed control range?
From 285 to 1,400 rpm. The flow rate varies in proportion to the speed.

Is the pump self-priming?
Yes. The manufacturer states a self-priming capacity of up to 6 m for this range of impeller pumps.

Can the pump be run in reverse?
Yes. LIVERANI impeller pumps are reversible and operate in both directions of rotation. They are used to drain pipelines.

What are the maximum viscosity and temperature?
Up to 50,000 cP and up to +100 °C. These figures apply to the LIVERANI range of impeller pumps.

What power supply is required?
Single-phase 230 V / 50 Hz mains supply. Power rating: 0.18, 0.56 or 0.75 kW, depending on the model.

Is it safe to run the pump dry?
Prolonged dry running is not permitted. The flexible blades operate in contact with the casing wall, and without liquid they will be damaged by friction.

How much does a LIVERANI MINIVERTER pump cost?
The price depends on the size, the steel grade of the casing, the impeller material and the connection type. Models made from AISI 316 are more expensive than those made from AISI 304. Please send us the flow rate, head, product name and connection type — we will prepare a quotation.
