Masdaf – Hexa multi-stage stainless steel pump
The Hexa multistage pump is a vertical high-pressure centrifugal pump in which the entire flow path is made of AISI 304 or AISI 316L stainless steel. The series has a flow rate ranging from 1 to 180 m³/h, a head ranging from 10 to 290 m, and a speed ranging from 3,000 to 3,600 rpm. The operating temperature of the fluid ranges from −20 to +120 °C. The series belongs to the group industrial pumps Masdaf is used where there are specific requirements regarding the material of the flow-through section.
How does Hexa differ from the cast-iron multi-stage series?
In the series KME, KMEV, OMK and OMKV The casings and impellers are made of cast iron as standard, with stainless steel available as an option. With Hexa, it is the opposite: the standard version is made entirely of stainless steel, AISI 304 or AISI 316L, and the manufacturer offers a GG25 cast iron option only for cast components. This determines the scope of application: drinking water, demineralised water, reverse osmosis, and process water with stringent purity requirements. What type of liquid can be pumped?
The manufacturer’s guidelines are clear: the series is designed for liquid, non-explosive and non-corrosive media free from solid particles and fibres. If the density or viscosity of the liquid is higher than that of water, a more powerful motor is required for the same operating point — this is taken into account during the selection process. The manufacturer requires that the chemical and physical properties of the medium be checked before selecting the pump type, rather than afterwards. What does the MEI number on the rating plate indicate?
This series is covered by EU Regulation 547/2012 for water pumps with a shaft power of up to 150 kW, which implements the Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC. Under this Regulation, the Minimum Efficiency Index (MEI) is marked on the nameplate, and the MEI values are shown on the pump’s performance curves. For facilities commissioned in accordance with European energy efficiency requirements, this serves as ready-made documentary evidence of compliance — no separate calculations are required.

To select a Hexa, we need the following information: the nature of the liquid and its temperature, the design flow rate and head, the suction pressure, the required stainless steel grade (AISI 304 or 316L) and the installation conditions. The steel grade is determined by the medium: AISI 304 is sufficient for drinking and process water, whilst AISI 316L is used for water with a high chloride content. Based on this information, we determine the model and size, finalise the configuration of the control panel and provide the specification.
