Why is a screw pump chosen specifically for food products?
Because it moves the product gently, without whipping it or destroying its structure: the rotor turns inside an elastic stator and the product travels in closed cavities with practically no shear. This is critical for cheese curd, minced meat, fillings with pieces of fruit, ready meals, jams and pastes.
What is the rotor-stator pair and how is it selected?
The rotor is a metal screw, the stator is an elastomer sleeve. The stator material is selected to suit the product and the temperature: NBR, EPDM, FKM in food-grade versions. The geometry of the pair determines the pressure and the flow — more stages give a higher pressure at the same flow.
Does such a pump withstand CIP cleaning?
Yes, food-grade versions are designed for cleaning without disassembly: hygienic geometry of the wet end, connections with dairy threads or clamps, a stator made of a material resistant to cleaning solutions and temperature. For certain products versions with extended access for manual cleaning are used.
What happens if the pump runs dry?
Dry running is the main cause of failure of screw pumps: without product the stator overheats and is destroyed within minutes. That is why we recommend including dry-running protection in the scope of supply — a stator temperature sensor or product presence monitoring in the suction line.
Are spare parts available and how often should they be changed?
The stator and the rotor are wear items; we keep them in supply as a separate item. Their service life depends on the abrasiveness of the product, the pressure and the operating mode. Scheduled replacement of the rotor-stator pair according to the schedule works out cheaper than an emergency line shutdown.
