ProMinent Sigma, MAKRO, ORLITA plunger metering pump

ProMinent plunger dosing pump is a process pump for metering at high pressure, high temperature or high media viscosity. The group includes five models: Sigma/2 SBKa, MAKRO TZKa, MAKRO M5Ka, ORLITA PS and ORLITA DR. Flow rate: up to 6,000 l/h; pressure: up to 800 bar.

When is a ProMinent plunger metering pump chosen?

The plunger directly displaces the medium from the dosing head. When the plunger moves into the head, the suction valve closes and the chemical leaves through the discharge valve. On the return stroke, the discharge valve closes and the head fills. The general operating principle of ProMinent metering pumps is described on the ProMinent brand page.

A plunger pump is chosen when the application requires:

pressure up to 800 bar;
media temperature up to +400 °C (ORLITA PS);
high-viscosity media up to 10⁶ mPa·s, including media with solids (ORLITA DR).

The plunger is sealed with packing. If the medium must be hermetically separated from the drive, consider ProMinent hydraulic diaphragm pumps.

How do the plunger pump models differ?

Sigma/2 SBKa — stroke 15 mm, flow adjustment in 0.2 % increments, oxide ceramic plunger. Reproducibility better than ±1 %.
MAKRO TZKa — stroke 0–20 mm, rod force 8,000 N, accuracy better than ±0.5 %. Up to four units can be combined in one assembly.
MAKRO M5Ka — the highest flow rate in the group. Dosing heads made of stainless steel 1.4571/1.4404; plungers: stainless steel/ceramic.
ORLITA PS — sizes PS 35, 80, 180 and 600 with a 20–40 mm stroke, cone valves, −40…+400 °C. The plunger packing can be tightened during operation.
ORLITA DR — operates without valves and therefore has a wide stroke rate range. The pumping direction is set by the piston position; −30…+200 °C.

Sigma/2 SBKa, MAKRO TZKa, ORLITA PS and ORLITA DR are supplied with motors for hazardous areas. For all plunger pumps, the manufacturer requires an overflow device to be provided during installation.

Where is the ProMinent plunger metering pump used?
