Packo (Jabsco) - Cam pump (LT-Series Hyline Tanker)

Request a quote

Packo LT pump — volumetric lobe pump for loading and unloading road tankers. Flow rate — up to 40 m³/h, maximum differential pressure — 15 bar. The pump is designed for direct mounting on a vehicle and is driven by the vehicle's hydraulic motor.

Steiner Ukraine supplies Packo equipment in Ukraine: process-specific selection, delivery, service, and spare parts.

What is a Packo LT pump?

LT is one of Packo's nine lobe pump series. The manufacturer defines its purpose unequivocally: hygienic pumps for the loading and unloading of road tankers. The series' alternative name from the manufacturer is Hy~Line.

All product-contact parts are made of stainless steel. The pump is designed to meet food-grade requirements.

The LT series differs from stationary lobe pumps in two respects: it is driven by the machine's hydraulic motor and has the ability to handle very viscous products. The manufacturer claims a viscosity of up to 1,000,000 units.

Other equipment from this manufacturer can be found on the page Verder – Packo.

Which models are in the LT series?

The manufacturer publishes four models with a fixed feed.

The model Flow rate, l/min Flow rate, m³/h
LT52 254 15,2
LT54 437 26,2
LT62 461 27,7
LT64 684 41,0

The connection size in the series ranges from 38 to 100 mm.

What technical parameters does the Packo LT pump have?

Parameter Value
Type rotary lobe pump
Purpose Filling and emptying of road tankers
Maximum flow rate 40 m³/h
Maximum differential pressure 15 bar
Maximum viscosity 1,000,000 (see note on units)
Maximum temperature 140 °C
Maximum engine speed 960 rpm
Size of the pipes 38–100 mm
Details regarding the product 316L stainless steel
Roughness of wetted surfaces Ra < 0.8 µm
Gearbox oil-filled, extended service intervals
Area of work two-way
Certification EC 1935/2004, FDA, USP, EAC; 3-A compliance available

A temperature of 140 °C and a viscosity of up to one million units represent the broadest limits among Packo's lobe series. By comparison, the ZW wine series is limited to 120 °C and 1,000 cP.

Why are a hollow shaft and a hydraulic motor needed?

The pump shaft is made hollow. The hydraulic motor shaft is inserted directly into it.

This removes the coupling, lantern ring and motor support frame from the design. The pump becomes shorter and lighter. On a tanker truck, this is critical: there is little space for the pump assembly, and every kilogram means undelivered product.

The second consequence is the power source. The hydraulic motor is powered by the machine's own hydraulic system. The pump does not need an external power supply at the discharge point. The tanker arrives, unloads and departs, independent of whether there is a suitable socket at the farm or receiving point.

Why does the Packo LT pump work in both directions?

The manufacturer claims bidirectional operation. The reverse changes the pumping direction without repiping.

For the tanker, this is the same pump for two operations: loading product into the tanker at the collection point and unloading it into a receiving tank. The reverse function also makes it possible to squeeze the remainder from the hose back into the tanker at the end of the shift.

A positive displacement pump must not be operated with a shut-off valve closed. The flow rate does not decrease as the back pressure increases, and the pressure continues to rise until the hose or pipework is damaged.

What hygienic design does the Packo LT pump have?

Product contact parts are 316L stainless steel. Wetted surface roughness is Ra < 0.8 µm.

Roughness here has a practical purpose. A road tanker carries milk or liquid food products and is washed between journeys. On a surface with an Ra higher than 0.8 µm, residues stay in the micro-irregularities and are not washed away by the flow of the cleaning solution.

The design is optimised for CIP (Cleaning-in-Place), and the seals are accessible without dismantling the pump. The front seals can be replaced from the cover side—the pump remains on the machine.

Series basic conformity documents: EC 1935/2004, FDA, USP, EAC. Compliance with the 3-A standard is offered separately by the manufacturer.

How does the LT differ from other Packo lobe series?

LT ZL / ZLC ZW
Purpose road tankers, mobile installation stationary processing lines winemaking
Maximum flow rate 40 m³/h 100 m³/h 58 m³/h
Maximum pressure 15 bar 20 bar 8 bar
Maximum temperature 140 °C — 120 °C
Drive hydraulic motor with a hollow shaft standard standard

Selection rule: the pump travels on a vehicle and is powered by its hydraulics — that's LT. The pump stands on the line and requires more than 15 bar — that's ZL or ZLC.

Frequently asked questions about the Packo LT pump

What is the LT series designed for?
The manufacturer classifies them as hygienic pumps for loading and unloading road tankers.

What is the maximum flow rate?
40 m³/h according to the manufacturer's summarised data. The largest model, the LT64, delivers 684 l/min, which is about 41 m³/h.

How many models are in the series?
Four: LT52, LT54, LT62, LT64.

What is the maximum pressure?
15 bar differential pressure

What is the maximum temperature?
140 °C.

Does the pump work with very viscous products?
Right. The manufacturer claims a viscosity of up to 1,000,000 units — that is the widest range among the Packo lobe series.

Is a power supply required at the discharge point?
No, if the pump is driven by the machine's hydraulic motor. The hollow shaft accepts the hydraulic motor shaft directly, without a coupling.

Can the seal be replaced without removing the pump?
Right. The manufacturer specifies front seals that can be replaced without dismantling the pump.

Is there a 3-A certificate?
Execution 3.1 is offered by the manufacturer as a separate option. As standard, the series has EC 1935/2004, FDA, USP and EAC.
