Packo (Jabsco) – HP and LH series lobe pumps for the food processing industry

What is a Packo HyLine pump?
HP and LH are lobe pumps. The manufacturer describes them identically for both series: pumps with a long history of application in almost all food and hygienic industries.

Rule of thumb. A required flow rate of up to 41 m³/h or a small connection from 19 mm means HP. A requirement of over 41 m³/h means LH. Explosion-proof design required — ATEX is only declared for HP. A 3-A certificate required — it is only declared for LH.
LH is the largest lobe pump in the Packo catalogue. The ZL and ZLC series are limited to 100 m³/h.

A viscosity of 1,000,000 cP is the upper limit of the entire Packo lobe pump range. For comparison, the ZW wine series is limited to 1,000 cP, which is a thousand times lower.
A positive displacement pump must not be started against a closed valve. The flow rate does not drop with an increase in backpressure, and the pressure rises until the equipment is damaged.
What products does the Packo HyLine pump transfer?

The manufacturer does not claim EHEDG for the HP and LH series. This designation does not appear on any of the four verified series pages. If EHEDG is required in your project, this must be confirmed in writing with Packo before submitting a proposal.
Why are the rotation speeds in these pumps low?
The LH operates at a maximum of 680 rpm, and the HP at 1,000 rpm. By comparison, a centrifugal pump typically operates at 1,450 or 2,900 rpm.
The reason lies in the very principle. A positive displacement pump moves a fixed volume per revolution. To deliver 108 m³/h, the LH uses large chambers rather than high speed.
Practical consequence two. The first is a smaller shift in the product: it does not accelerate and does not hit the walls. The second is lower wear: the friction pair travels a shorter distance per hour of operation.
For viscous products, low speeds are also mandatory. The thick mass does not manage to fill the chamber at high speed, and the pump loses its priming.
