How does a plate heat exchanger work?
Thin, specially shaped metal plates form separate channels for each liquid. The liquids flow in counterflow, and heat passes through the plate wall.
Corrugation increases flow turbulence and raises the heat transfer coefficient. A plate unit is therefore more compact than a conventional one, heats and cools faster and uses less energy.
