gruen-pumpen – drum pump: tube, motor and ready-to-use kits

Request a quote

A grün-pumpen drum pump is an immersion tube with a pumping element and a removable electric motor, connected by a quick-release coupling. The manufacturer is grün-pumpen gmbh, Alzenau, Germany. The design is modular: any tube can be combined with any of the three motors, and one motor serves several tubes. The pump is designed for emptying 200 l drums, IBC containers and process tanks. Read more about the manufacturer on the brand page grün-pumpen.

What does a grün-pumpen drum pump consist of?

The set consists of four parts: the pump tube, the shaft, the pumping element and the motor. The tube determines the chemical resistance, the pumping element determines the flow rate and head, and the motor determines the power and permissible viscosity.

Sealing is of two types. The glandless design has no friction pairs in the medium and requires less maintenance. The mechanical seal is available for polypropylene and stainless steel pipes.

Common parameters for all versions: pipe outer diameter 40 mm, outlet connection — 1 1/4″ BSP male thread, immersion depth 700, 1000 or 1200 mm, curved-tooth coupling.

Which pipe to choose: PVDF, polypropylene, stainless steel or aluminium?

The pipe material is selected according to the medium. The values for delivery rate, viscosity and head are given for three feed elements in the order: axial impeller / radial impeller / screw.

Pipe material Gaskets Max. flow rate, l/min Max. viscosity, mPa·s Max. head, mWG Shaft Blending function ATEX
PVDF glandless 110 / 100 / 60 800 / 700 8 / 20 / 10 Hastelloy no no
Polypropylene (PP) sealless or mechanical seal 110 / 100 / 60 800 / 700 / 1500 8 / 20 / 10 Hastelloy or stainless steel yes (optional) no
Stainless steel sealless or mechanical seal 125 / 105 / 120 800 / 1800 10 / 25 / 14 stainless steel no yes (optional)
Aluminium glandless 150 / 110 / 65 800 / 700 / 1500 8 / 20 / 10 stainless steel no no

Pipe weight: PVDF — 1.8–2 kg, polypropylene — 1.5 kg, aluminium — 1.5 kg.

The PVDF manufacturer recommends it for concentrated acids and alkalis, hot low-viscosity liquids, paints, emulsions, dispersions, suspensions and cosmetics. Polypropylene is used for corrosive liquids. Stainless steel is used where easy cleaning and resistance to corrosion and abrasion are required. Aluminium is used for neutral liquids.

What is the difference between an axial impeller, a radial impeller and a screw?

The axial impeller (A series) delivers maximum flow at low head. It is used when a large volume needs to be pumped quickly.

A radial impeller (R series) delivers higher head at a lower flow rate. It is used when a fluid needs to be lifted or delivered through a long hose.

The screw (S series) is designed for medium-viscosity media. The manufacturer specifies a range of 500–1000 mPa·s as the screw’s operating range, whilst the specification table allows for up to 1800 mPa·s for stainless steel pipes.

What types of motors are fitted to Grün-Pumpen barrel pumps?

All three motors are commutator-type, with an arc-tooth coupling, so they can be connected to any pipe.

p310 — a basic drive for pipes with an axial impeller, designed for short, intermittent operations. p400 — a versatile drive with power reserve: designed for media densities up to 2 kg/l, with an optimal operating range of 0.4–1 bar back pressure and a flow rate of 10–80 l/min; with a multi-stage pump unit, it achieves up to 4 bar. The p400 is available in an IP 54 version on request.

Ex700 features an explosion-proof housing: an inner aluminium casing in a flameproof enclosure, and an outer one made of impact-resistant antistatic plastic that dissipates electrostatic charge. The reduced speed of 8,000 rpm decreases wear and noise.

Ready-made kits: WS-1, ES-1, CS-1, AS-1, BS-1

The manufacturer offers five standard kits. Each contains a motor, pipe, hose, dispensing nozzle and accessories.

Kit Art. Pipe / shaft Flow rate, l/min Power Immersion Purpose
BS-1 410-0002 PP / stainless steel 30–50 520 W 1000 mm short episodic operations, diluted acids and alkalis, non-flammable low-viscosity liquids
AS-1 415-0011 PP / Hastelloy 50–80 850 W 1000 mm concentrated acids and alkalis, sealless design
CS-1 420-0002 PVDF / Hastelloy 50–80 850 W 1000 mm almost all low-viscosity non-flammable chemicals, continuous operation
ES-1 430-0002 stainless steel / stainless steel up to 100 700 W 1000 mm flammable liquids, weak acids and alkalis, ATEX zones
WS-1 460-0002 aluminium / stainless steel 50–80 850 W 1000 mm oils, coolants, detergents, non-flammable liquids in a car repair shop

All kits are 230 V.

Example of kit BS-1 contents: P310-A-230 motor, DL-PP-R-Niro-1000 pipe, reinforced PVC hose DN19 2 m, DN19 hose connector made of PP, stainless steel hose clips, dispensing nozzle DN19 PP/FPM/Niro, drum adapter made of PP, wall bracket.

Which Grün-pumpen drum pump is suitable for an ATEX zone?

The manufacturer specifies an ATEX-compliant version only for the stainless steel pipe — for PVDF, polypropylene, and aluminium, such an option is not available in the range of versions.

A ready-made solution for hazardous areas — the ES-1 set. It consists of the Ex700 motor and the Niro-A-1000 tube, features a conductive design with potential equalisation for safe earthing, and is intended for combustible liquids, weak acids and alkalis.

The specific category and ATEX zone for your facility are confirmed by the supply documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum delivery rate of the Grün-Pumpen drum pump?
150 l/min (9 m³/h) – aluminium tube with axial impeller. For stainless steel tube maximum 125 l/min, for PVDF and polypropylene – 110 l/min.

What is the maximum head?
25 mVs - stainless steel pipe with a radial impeller. The p400 motor with a multistage pump assembly delivers up to 4 bar.

What viscosity can the pump handle?
Up to 1800 mPa·s with the auger in a stainless steel tube. The motor also sets limits: p310 — up to 300 mPa·s, Ex700 — up to 600 mPa·s, p400 — up to 800 mPa·s.

Can multiple pipes be served by a single motor?
Right. The quick-release coupling allows you to disconnect the motor from one pipe and connect it to another in seconds. This is a standard scenario when there are several media on-site.

What immersion depths are available?
700, 1000 and 1200 mm for all four pipe materials.

Is the pump suitable for food media?
Material execution and accompanying certificates for culture media are agreed separately for the specific medium and production requirements.

What needs to be specified in the quote request?
The medium and its concentration, viscosity and density, required flow rate, delivery head or hose length, type of container, presence of an ATEX zone, operating mode (intermittent or continuous).
