HAUS – DDF decanters for the food industry

The HAUS DDF food industry decanter is a decanter centrifuge in two- or three-phase design for processing fruit and vegetables into beverages and treating by-products. Steiner Ukraine supplies HAUS decanters, selects the model for the product and capacity, and carries out installation, commissioning and service.

What tasks does the food industry decanter perform?

• Juice clarification — reducing the solids content in the liquid, which facilitates subsequent filtration.
• Pulp dewatering — increasing the solids concentration and reducing the volume of by-products, and thus the costs of transport, drying and disposal.
• Both tasks at once — clarification of the liquid phase with maximum dewatering of the solid phase.

How does a decanter work?

The product enters the conveyor feed chamber through the feed pipe and, under centrifugal force, passes into the bowl, where it stratifies by density. Solids settle on the bowl wall, and the scroll conveyor transports them to the discharge in the conical section. Clarified liquid leaves over height-adjustable plates at the end of the cylindrical section. The solids conveying rate is determined by the speed difference between bowl and scroll.

In the three-phase version, the decanter separates the solid phase and two immiscible liquids. The light liquid is discharged through level-adjustable tubes, the heavy liquid through adjustable plates.

How is the food industry decanter built?

• product-contact surfaces are made of stainless steel; food-grade materials and lubricants;
• grooved inner bowl surface, polished contact surfaces to prevent deposits;
• CIP compatibility.

The main motor drives the bowl, the secondary motor drives the scroll. Both motors are controlled by frequency converters and connected by a high-torque gearbox without a friction clutch. The differential speed is adjusted automatically to the amount of solids. On the touch panel with PLC, automatic modes are selected, sludge dryness is set and alarms are monitored.

Which models are in the DDF series?

The series includes eight sizes in two-phase and three-phase versions: DDF 2342/2343, 3532/3533, 3542/3543, 4042/4043, 4742/4743, 5342/5343, 6542/6543, 8242/8243. Weight is from 900 to 15800 kg, installed drive power from 9.7 to 205 kW depending on the model.
