TMXFLOW – Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger

Request a quote

The TMXFLOW gasketed plate heat exchanger transfers heat between two media through thin corrugated plates. The media flow in separate channels and do not mix.

The unit can be opened for inspection and cleaning. The number of plates can be increased or reduced when the load changes. The general working principle of plate heat exchangers is described on the page TMXFLOW – Heat Exchangers.

How is the TMXFLOW gasketed plate heat exchanger designed?

The plate pack is clamped with bolts between the fixed and movable frame plates. Each plate has a gasket that forms the channel and seals it.

The hot and cold media pass through alternate channels, mostly in counterflow. The plate corrugation creates turbulent flow, so heat transfer is effective even at a small temperature difference.

TMXFLOW gasketed plate heat exchanger: specifications

Parameter Value
Type plate, gasketed, can be dismantled
Flow arrangement counterflow
Plates corrugated; material selected for the medium, titanium for seawater
Gaskets selected for the medium and temperature
Capacity change by adding or removing plates
Servicing opening the pack, mechanical cleaning, replacement of plates and gaskets

When to choose a gasketed plate heat exchanger?

  • The product leaves deposits, and the heat exchanger needs periodic mechanical cleaning.
  • The load may change and capacity will need to be increased.
  • Access to every plate for inspection is important.

If maintenance is not planned and the most compact unit for clean media is needed, consider the TMXFLOW brazed heat exchanger.

Where is it used?

  • food and beverage industry — pasteurisation, heating and cooling of product;
  • heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, substations;
  • power generation — condenser cooling, heat recovery;
  • chemical industry — controlled heating and cooling;
  • marine systems — titanium plates for seawater.

Why do plates and gaskets matter?

The service life of a gasketed heat exchanger is determined by the gaskets and the condition of the plates. A worn gasket lets the medium through, and deposits on the plates reduce heat transfer.

How poor-quality parts affect energy consumption is described in the article on heat exchanger energy efficiency. On choosing gaskets — see the article on Orobica gaskets.

Selection and service from Steiner Ukraine

Selection requires:

  • media on both sides;
  • flow rates;
  • inlet and outlet temperatures;
  • allowable pressure drop;
  • operating pressure and cleaning requirements.

Steiner Ukraine supplies plates and gaskets and regenerates heat exchangers on site and at its service centre. Prices are quoted on request.

FAQ

Can the capacity of a TMXFLOW heat exchanger be increased?

Yes. Capacity is changed by adding plates to the pack, if the frame length allows.

Is the heat exchanger suitable for food products?

Yes. Gasketed plate heat exchangers are used for pasteurisation, heating and cooling of product. Plate and gasket materials are selected for the product.

How often do gaskets need replacing?

It depends on the medium, temperature and cleaning regime. Signs of wear are described in the article on heat exchanger wear.

Is there a seawater version?

Yes, with titanium plates.
