ANDRITZ - End suction pump (ACP)

Request a quote

The ANDRITZ ACP pump is a single-stage, single-flow centrifugal pump with an open impeller. Its low-axial-load design with open channels allows it to handle clean, slightly contaminated and contaminated fluids, including slurries with fibre content of up to 8 per cent. Flow rate: up to 9,000 m³/h; head: up to 190 m; operating pressure: up to 83 bar; medium temperature: up to 200 °C; efficiency: up to 91 per cent. The ACP series has replaced the previous S series and is ANDRITZ’s standard process machine for the pulp and paper, mining, power generation, chemical and food industries.

How does the SMARTSEP degassing system work?

SMARTSEP is an integrated gas extraction system designed for media with high gas content and fibrous suspensions with a concentration of up to 8 per cent. An additional separation impeller is built into the pump: it separates the gas from the medium whilst simultaneously returning the fibres to the flow, so that no fibres are lost.

The practical result is that a separate vacuum pump is not required. This removes one unit from the system, along with its power supply and maintenance requirements. Control of the degassing valve is limited to two states: when the pump is running, the valve is open; when the pump is stopped, it is closed.

Without degassing, gas accumulates in the centre of the impeller, the flow rate drops, the pump enters an unstable operating mode and seizes up. It is precisely this that limits the use of conventional centrifugal pumps with pulp.

What impellers are available for the ANDRITZ ACP pump?

The ANDRITZ ACP pump is fitted with open impellers of various designs, and it is the choice of impeller that determines the permissible medium:

  • for clean liquids — a design offering maximum efficiency;
  • for lightly contaminated environments — a wear-resistant design with open channels;
  • for contaminated environments containing solid particles — a design with a higher wear margin;
  • For fibrous suspensions with a concentration of up to 8 per cent — supplied complete with a SMARTSEP separation wheel.

The impeller is selected on the basis of the medium’s composition, not the flow rate. An error at this stage leads to accelerated wear, even if the hydraulics have been correctly calculated.

What materials is the ANDRITZ ACP pump made from?

Material Type Typical application
EN-GJL-250 grey cast iron water, neutral media
1.4474 stainless steel general process media
1.4462 duplex steel chlorides, moderately corrosive media
1.4517 duplex steel, castings aggressive media containing abrasives
1.4469 super-duplex steel high corrosion resistance
5.5610 special alloy certain chemical environments

The modular design of the series allows the same tried-and-tested components to be used in different configurations and reduces the range of spare parts held in stock.

For which sectors and environments is the ACP series suitable?

The ACP process pump is used in the pulp and paper industry, mining, offshore applications, the power sector, and the food and chemical industries. A separate category of applications includes water supply, wastewater treatment, desalination plants, irrigation and drainage.

On the Ukrainian market, the most common applications for this series are pulp and process water in paper mills, hot and corrosive media in the chemical and energy sectors, and abrasive slurries in mineral processing. Industry-specific selections are compiled in the section sector-specific solutions, and the full list can be found in the sections industrial pumps and centrifugal pumps.

How does the ACP series differ from other ANDRITZ series?

The series Type Position
ACP single-stage centrifugal, open impeller the current standard process series, up to 9,000 m³/h and 190 m
S single-stage centrifugal the predecessor to the ACP, remains in service worldwide
ES04 centrifugal with a spiral casing, non-self-priming Compact units for confined spaces: washing machines for crates and bottles, air-conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems
AD self-priming centrifugal liquids and air, up to 2,000 m³/h and 75 m

If there is air in the suction line and the pump is to be started without priming, the following series is required: AD. If the gas is present in the medium itself, but high flow rates and pressure are required, then the ACP with SMARTSEP is the solution. The manufacturer’s other series are available at the ANDRITZ page.

How to choose an ANDRITZ ACP pump at Steiner Ukraine

Six input parameters are required for the calculation: flow rate in m³/h, required head in metres, composition and temperature of the medium, concentration of solids or fibres, system pressure, and connection type. Based on these parameters, we determine the size, impeller design, material of the hydraulic components, seal type and whether SMARTSEP is required.

Steiner Ukraine supplies pumps and pumping systems, including design, configuration, commissioning and spare parts — the scope is described in the section services. The technical specifications of the original source are published at the ANDRITZ website.

Frequently asked questions about the ANDRITZ ACP pump

What is the maximum mass concentration for the ANDRITZ ACP pump?
Up to 8 per cent when fitted with the SMARTSEP degassing system. Without degassing, the operating limit is lower and is determined by the gas content of the medium.

Is a separate vacuum pump required for degassing?
No. SMARTSEP uses an additional separation impeller inside the pump, so a separate vacuum pump is not fitted.

What is the maximum ambient temperature?
Up to 200 °C. The specific limit in your case depends on the material used and the type of shaft seal.

How does the ACP differ from the S series?
ACP is the current series; S is its predecessor. Both perform the same process functions, but new projects are fitted with the ACP.

Is it possible to order spare parts for an ANDRITZ ACP pump in Ukraine?
Yes. To make an enquiry, you will need the pump type, model number and serial number from the nameplate. The modular design of the series reduces the range of stock items.

How much does an ANDRITZ ACP pump cost?
The price depends on the size, material, seal type and drive configuration. The same size in grey cast iron and super duplex steel can vary by a factor of several. Please send us the flow rate, head, composition and temperature of the medium — we will prepare a calculation.
