The CSF self-priming pump is a single-stage centrifugal pump with a self-priming mechanism, designed for liquids containing air or foam and for systems with a partially filled suction pipe. Parts in contact with the product are made of AISI 316L (1.4404) stainless steel and CF3M (1.4409) cast steel with electrochemical polishing. The series is certified to EHEDG, 3-A and ATEX standards.<\/p>\n

CSF self-priming pump: how it draws in liquid along with air<\/h2>\n

A standard centrifugal pump does not pump air: if there is a gas phase in the impeller, the impeller does not expel it, the flow is interrupted and the pump runs dry.<\/p>\n

In the CNH series, a screw rotor is fitted upstream of the impeller, and the rotor chamber is offset relative to the axis of the centrifugal stage. It is this assembly that provides self-priming: it removes air from the suction line and fills it with liquid, after which the centrifugal stage enters operating mode. The suction pipe is axially mounted; the impeller is open, with five blades.<\/p>\n

The practical result is that the pump starts up on an empty or partially filled line and maintains the flow when gas appears in the product. This is precisely the task that a standard centrifugal pump cannot perform.<\/p>\n

Four series of CSF self-priming pumps<\/h2>\n

The manufacturer offers four self-priming series: CNH, AS, A and ASH. All four are certified to ATEX, 3-A and EHEDG standards; parts in contact with the product are made of stainless steel, and the design allows for quick disassembly for maintenance.<\/p>\n

The different series vary in terms of how self-priming is achieved and their operating range; therefore, the specific series to be selected depends on the application: the gas content in the product, the suction head, the required flow rate and the required head.<\/p>\n

Electrochemical polishing of cast parts has direct hygienic benefits: it removes micro-irregularities on which food residues can accumulate, meaning the surface can be washed thoroughly in the dishwasher without the need for disassembly.<\/p>\n

How does the CSF self-priming pump differ from the CL-CLC series?<\/h2>\n

Both groups consist of hygienic centrifugal pumps from the same manufacturer, but they are designed for different purposes.<\/p>\n

In the series CL-CLC<\/a> The impeller is mounted directly onto the motor shaft; there is no self-priming device. The pump operates with the pipeline filled and a head at the inlet.<\/p>\n

The CSF self-priming pump has an independent shaft and an additional assembly upstream of the impeller. The design is more complex and expensive, but the pump operates where there is no head or where the product contains gas.<\/p>\n

Selection rule. If the line is full and the inlet head is stable, a CL-CLC model is sufficient. If the pump is required to empty a tank completely, lift the product from a low level or handle a foaming product, a self-priming model is required.<\/p>\n

Where are CSF self-priming pumps used?<\/h2>\n

The manufacturer classifies these series as being for use in the food, drinks and pharmaceutical industries.<\/p>\n

Three typical applications are explicitly mentioned: emptying tanks, returning cleaning solution in a CIP circuit, and pumping liquids with a high gas content. The CNH series is used in the food, dairy and beverage industries.<\/p>\n

Emptying a tank right down to the bottom is a task where self-priming is most effective. Towards the end of the pumping process, the level drops below the inlet to the pipework, air enters the line, and a conventional pump would cut out at this point. A self-priming pump completes the pumping process, leaving less product in the tank.<\/p>\n

Maintenance and cleaning<\/h2>\n

The design of this series allows for quick disassembly: the impeller and seal can be accessed without removing the pump from the pipeline.<\/p>\n

The manufacturer describes the recirculation of the CIP cleaning solution as a separate application within the series. This means that the pump operates not only with the product, but also in the cleaning circuit, where the medium is alkaline or acidic and hot, and air from the drain is present in the line.<\/p>\n

When selecting a self-priming pump, the process begins with the inlet conditions rather than the discharge conditions: suction head, line length and fill level, gas content in the fluid, and susceptibility to foaming. These conditions determine the series, and only then is the model size selected.<\/p>\n

We specify the product and its temperature, viscosity at operating temperature, the geometry of the suction line, the required flow rate and head, the CIP mode, the standard of the available connections and the requirements for documentation on materials in contact with the product.
