However, this approach conceals a financial trap.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In modern engineering practice, the assessment of equipment efficiency is based on the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and LCC (Life Cycle Cost) methodologies. If you analyse all the costs over the first 24 months of operation, it becomes obvious: a cheap pump of Chinese or no-name manufacture costs the company considerably more than a premium equivalent.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let us examine the mathematics and the physics of this process.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Anatomy of the life cycle cost of a pump (LCC)<\/strong><\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to international standards (in particular ISO 14040\/44 and the Hydraulic Institute guides), the total cost of ownership of a pump consists of several elements.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This relationship is clearly illustrated by the classic life cycle cost (LCC) formula:<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LCC = C_in + C_inst + C_en + C_op + C_m + C_s + C_env + C_d<\/strong><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Where:<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>C_in<\/strong> \u2014 initial cost (purchase);<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>C_inst<\/strong> \u2014 installation and commissioning;<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>C_en<\/strong> \u2014 electricity costs;<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>C_op<\/strong> \u2014 operating costs (personnel wages);<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>C_m<\/strong> \u2014 maintenance and repair;<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>C_s<\/strong> \u2014 costs caused by production downtime;<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>C_env<\/strong> \u2014 environmental charges (disposal, CO\u2082 emissions);<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>C_d<\/strong> \u2014 dismantling and decommissioning.<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the cost structure of an industrial pump over 10 years of its operation, the purchase price itself (<strong>C_in<\/strong>) accounts for <strong>no more than 10\u201315%<\/strong>. The remaining 85\u201390% is energy and servicing.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why does a \u00abcheap\u00bb pump lose out over a distance of 2 years?<\/strong><\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let us look at the three main factors that cause budget equipment to start rapidly \u00abdraining\u00bb the enterprise budget from the very first months after start-up.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. The energy gap (hydraulic efficiency)<\/strong><\/h3><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Premium brands invest millions in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling of the wetted parts, impeller geometry and casting accuracy. Budget analogues copy the shape of outdated models, using cheaper alloys with high surface roughness.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Consequence:<\/strong> The efficiency of a budget pump can be 15\u201325% lower than that of a premium one.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>The mathematics of 2026:<\/strong> A 45 kW pump operating 24\/7 (approx. 8,000 hours a year), with a difference in efficiency of even 15%, will over two years overconsume so much electricity that its cost will completely cover the price difference between the \u00abcheap\u00bb and the \u00abexpensive\u00bb pump.<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Quality of seals and materials (hidden repairs)<\/strong><\/h3><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries, aggressive or viscous media rapidly destroy low-quality materials. Cheap mechanical seals or elastomers lose their tightness within just a few months.<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The premium approach:<\/strong> The use of wear-resistant materials (silicon carbide, tungsten, duplex steels) and sealless solutions (magnetic drive pumps).<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>The budget approach:<\/strong> Standard stainless steel of low grades and basic rubber seals. Constant leaks require regular replacement of spare parts, the cost of which over 2 years catches up with the cost of the pump itself.<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3.
