A significant portion of facilities operate with outdated equipment, leading to regular repairs, excessive energy costs, and the risk of non-compliance with regulations.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Steiner Ukraine<\/strong> specialises in the turnkey modernisation and integration of wastewater treatment systems. Below we will explain where the problems arise and how to solve them for the benefit of the economics of the enterprise.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why systems are inefficient<\/strong><\/h2><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>FOG in food production.<\/strong> Fats and oils form emulsions, settle in pipelines, and reduce the efficiency of pumps and flotation units.<br><\/li>\n\n<li><strong>Workload in the public sector.<\/strong> Excess sludge, peak inflows, and unstable recirculation overload the facilities.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Outdated blowers.<\/strong> In many cases, old units consume <strong>too much electricity<\/strong> and become <strong>economically unfeasible<\/strong>: low efficiency under real operating conditions, lack of precise control, frequent downtime.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Pumping equipment.<\/strong> The market is evolving: <strong>modern pumps are more durable and energy-efficient<\/strong> thanks to improved hydraulics, anti-clog impellers, and IE3\/IE4 motors. Older models often operate outside optimal points and increase OPEX.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Lack of automation.<\/strong> Without integrated SCADA\/telemetry and online sensors (DO, ammonium, nitrates, TSS), the process is controlled \u201cmanually,\u201d which increases the risk of errors and costs.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Regulations.<\/strong> BOD, COD, TSS, nitrogen\/phosphorus forms, and pH are monitored. A violation of even one parameter results in fines and reputational risks.<br><\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Modern treatment train (cleaning chain)<\/strong><\/h2><ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Pre-treatment:<\/strong> screens, grit chambers, <strong>grease trap\/DAF<\/strong> (especially for food industry wastewater).<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Primary treatment:<\/strong> primary clarifiers (as per scheme).<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Biological treatment:<\/strong> CAS, SBR, <strong>MBR<\/strong>, MBBR, IFAS.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Biomass separation:<\/strong> <strong>secondary clarifiers<\/strong> (for CAS\/SBR) <strong>or membranes in MBR<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Tertiary\/final treatment:<\/strong> filtration, UV\/chlorination; if required \u2014 sorption, additional nitrogen\/phosphorus removal.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Sludge treatment:<\/strong> thickening \u2192 <strong>anaerobic digestion (biogas)<\/strong> \u2192 dewatering (decanter, screw\/belt press) \u2192 disposal\/beneficial use.<br><\/li><\/ol><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each stage affects the next: if the pumps \u2018sag\u2019 at the inlet or aeration is ineffective, the final stages will not achieve the design quality.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sludge dewatering \u2014 the key to economy<\/strong><\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Properly organised dewatering directly affects <strong>TCO<\/strong> (total cost of ownership):<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Higher dry solids content (%DS) = lower volume\/mass<\/strong> for disposal \u2192 reduced logistics costs and disposal fees.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>Less energy<\/strong> for further drying\/thermal treatment (less water to evaporate).<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>More water is returned<\/strong> to the process thanks to high-quality filtrate\/centrate.<br><\/li>\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>More stable bioprocesses<\/strong> due to uniform sludge removal.<br><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Tools:<\/strong> decanter centrifuges, screw\/belt presses (selected according to sludge type);
